Hide Hirayama is a professional
chief instructor at the Japanese Academy of Martial Arts - a school
of self-defence established in Australia in 1977.

In Japan
Hide was born and bred
in Japan where he trained and dedicated his life to martial arts.
He studied and practiced Jukendo weapon fighting, Taido, and Taikudo
karate under the guidance of the grand master, Hideo Kosone. He
enlisted in the Japanese Army and as a platoon leader,completed
the toughest, most torturous training of the Ranger Corps (which
is comparable with the Commandos, the Green Berets and the Guerilla
Warfare). He competed in and won the Japanese Army Jukendo Championships
for 2 consecutive years.
In America
In 1972 , after many
years of training in Japan, Hide went to America to spread and
teach the true spirit, philosophy and technique of Japanese martial
arts. He spent 5 years traveling all over the USA, teaching at
various establishments such as YMCAs, colleges and universities
as well as the US Air Force Academy in Colorado. During his stay
there, he competed in and won more than 20 karate and martial
arts championships. After training some of his best students to
black belt instructor level, he left for Australia.
In Australia
In 1977, Hide arrived
in Australia - pioneer of Taikudo Karate. He traveled extensively
around Australia, searching for a suitable venues, teaching and
demonstrating. Since settling in Sydney he has continued teaching
karate, weapons and self-defence as well as competing in and winning
many karate, martial arts and kick boxing championships. In 1978
Hide won the first Australian Open Full-Contact Karate Championship.
In 1988, Hide and his partner (Judo & Jujitsu instructor)
built their own, fully equipped martial arts training centre in
Panania,(Sydney) which is now the headquarters of the Japanese
Academy of Martial Arts (JAMA).
Today
Hide takes great pride
and pleasure in teaching and sharing his knowledge, experience
and skill with anyone who wishes to learn.
